@Autumn

Good work on reducing the Boomer score. I dunno what I answered except the hard work and as @Flick says environmental questions that made it rank me as a Boomer.

@amerika @Autumn Oh, no: I was saying environmental made you rank as Zoomer!

@Flick @Autumn

Oh! Wild, most of the Boomers I knew were raving about climate change in the 1980s, but they were pretty liberal. I tended to listen to Silents and Greatest Gen people more. Boomers always seemed... half-done to me.

@amerika @Flick depends on whether the Boomer is a Lib imo

@Autumn @Flick

The Boomers around me loved the UN, pemmican, and MLKjr (not to mention J/RFK).

@amerika @Flick I grew up in West Germany so a bit different - JFK was beloved there too though

@Autumn @Flick

A lovely place back in the day. To be fair, David Hasselhoff was pretty popular too.

@amerika @Flick lol I never understood that

@Autumn @Flick

He was a "safe" celebrity for awhile. Wholesome image, seemed just a goofy friendly guy who wanted to party.

@amerika @Autumn Ah, we have the culture lag here; our boomers were just “chop the trees down”, not hippies. It was this one especially that made me think they’d pegged you as zoomer, because half earth won’t be on their radar:

@Flick @Autumn

The Boomers I knew were weirdly like Californians... very pro-environment but if it was time to build that 4ksqft house in the country they always wanted, THOSE trees could die!

@amerika @Flick wasn't NIMBY invented for those folks?

@Autumn @Flick

And DINKs, if I remember correctly.

@amerika @Flick I think DINKS was a late Boomer/Gen X thing - pushing all the name brands and consumerism everyone wanted to drive a Beemer

@Autumn @Flick

Coming right out of that 1980s yuppie madness.

@amerika @Autumn @Flick "Pro environment" meaning not near their fucking McMansion subdivision built on top of prime farmland or a forest. But it's all good if China wants to dump mercury into the ocean so long as TVs are $5 cheaper at Walmart.

@Flick @amerika remember the acid rain hysteria? At least scrubbers were installed & some rivers were cleaned up. Real results. The very word "sustainability" makes me nauseated

@Autumn @Flick

And ozone layer? Same. Even Superfund did some good things.

@Autumn @amerika Oh god yes, I got that heavily in school. Ozone layer, too. (Although they seem to be trying to hype that back up).

Then again, I also got “we’re about to have another ice age and all starve” at school, too.

@Flick @Autumn

Not to mention the constant warnings of nuclear war and nuclear winter.

@Flick @amerika never had that in Germany. In fact I never ever heard any fear of Russia. It was hard b/c folks had family trapped in East Germany though They had to holiday behind the Iron Curtain to see them

@Autumn @Flick

There were also fairly constant news stories of escapes.
@Flick @Autumn

The previous generation still had the practice drills in school. By the time ICBMs came around, the general idea was just to expose yourself and die early to avoid suffering.

@amerika @Flick I remember going to a protest cuz Reagan was putting them in W Germany. What a scam and benefit for the MIC

@Autumn @Flick

The entire Reagan plan seems to have been to induce the Soviets into brain paralysis so they self-destructed early.

Matthias Rust did his part...

@Flick @amerika I'd forgotton that - the GIANT hole in the ozone. Quick - ban aerosol sprays
