Tractor coming soon.

I have my eyes set on some Woodland Mills forestry equipment, namely the chipper and stump grinder.

I'd like to get a sawmill too, but they're quite pricey and I just sold a kidney to buy the tractor, so that's going to have to wait.

Considering buying one of those cheap Chinesium aftermarket backup cameras to affix to the stump grinder, because I'm 100% sure I won't be able to see what I'm doing from the seat.

Good idea? Anyone done similar?

@eriner stump grinder may be a side biz too, if you were so inclined.

@eriner i use a $30 backup camera in my SXS. Works great. Just gotta wipe the lens once in a while.

@Gawdphather Good to know I'm not the only one thinking this is a good idea 😆

Mounting location (and secure connection, anti-vibration, etc) is probably going to be my biggest hurdle due to where I'll probably have to mount it.

@eriner vibration shouldn’t be a concern( my holds up fine so far after a couple thousand miles on the hatfield mccoy trails). I saw cattle baron metioned weather, you didnt mention if your new tractor has a cab?

@Gawdphather Vibration concern isn't out of durability for the camera, but the camera shaking violently while the stump grinder is biting wood. To mount it without all that vibration, I need to affix the mount to the tractor itself and use conduit or something to create an arm that I can lock next to or behind the grinder. Maybe it won't be as bad as I anticipate it will, but we'll see.

Tractor has a cab, so the panel will be sheltered.

I'll probably try wireless cameras (for flexibility)

@eriner When I had my big rv I used a wireless back up camera. I would slap it on the spare tire when I needed it and take it off to store it while traveling. It was magnetic and USB rechargeable. It wasn't this exact model, but very similar.

For a mill, I like the woodmizer. IF you want to set it up and plug it in to electric, you can save a bundle.
When looking at a mill, check out the blades. Some blades are 'custom' meaning you can only get them from that manufacturer because they are an odd size.
