@MK2boogaloo @histoire why is macOS for people who fear technology? It's literally Unixoid and they tech Unix at universities for computer science and similar.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yeah how dare they buy a mac for their iOS app developer degree the only platform you can write ios apps on
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yea why would anyone ever make apps for the platform with like 90% marketshare in the US.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire but I didn't mean it like that. As a tech mfer you either know Windows or Unix. And macOS is the winner of the Unixoid systems. Not Linux or bsd or whatever. Plus a lot of shit just doesn't work on Linux. So if your tech job requires some tools that only work on mac. There you go.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire plus the apple silicon chips are actually insane. Kinda sucks you can't do a hackintosh anymore. But I love that someone finally doesn't just use the bog standard Intel chips now. I hope the 90s with all the different architectures makes a return.. Kindof.. I dislike every single thing being x86
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yes real life usage. Mac has software dev and like music or video production tools. You show me how to run Final Cut Pro X on Ubuntu. I don't use that but it's an example.
@histoire @MK2boogaloo yeah well that's my example because I do video editing. And I really don't like kdenlive. But the programs I learned don't run on Linux. Olive still sucks. Davinci resolve for some reason I can't get to run..
Like what's the options then. I put up with kdenlive but I don't like it that much.
@MK2boogaloo @silas @histoire I will say that logic pro on mac is probably the best DAW (digital audio workstation) and I really wish I could use it on windows. That's the only thing it has going for it. Thankfully there are at least pretty good alternatives on windows.
As far as video editing goes I've tried a lot of different ones and the only one that actually does what I need it to is Corel lol. Not sure if it has a Mac version.
One of my roommates edits gaming videos from time to time, but I think he just uses some software that's included in overwolf or whatever. It's extremely simple. He makes anime edits on his phone too, somehow.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yea. But those are alternatives. It's an alternative. If you go learn video production or like game design. Chances are you will use premiere and Photoshop and Unreal.
Almost no one is willing to relearn and entire job just because oh look it's GPL licensed.
No one gives a shit.
I think they should. I hate having a computer with closed source OS at home.
But no one Really cares.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yea winner. Because Software is a popularity contest. Architecturally haiku is better than any Linux, Mac or Windows. And like 7 people use it.
@MK2boogaloo @histoire yea Adobe won as well. You send someone the video you made in kdenlive and they won't pay you because they can't open the project.
@Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire lol there's a reason i have Linux on my pc I built myself. And then I also have a mac mini. But that is only rented... I'm gonna give it back and swap it with an M3 model. I don't use it often because I dislike the GUI. Its like a really limited version of Gnome. And I really like Gnome. So. I am annoyed and hate mac.
@Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire I don't use it super often though. But there are some programs that only run on mac. Genuinely I don't even shut it down lol. I use it for. Crypto mining when I don't use it because that thing genuinely uses I think like 12 watts. I forgot. But I measured it. It's insane.
And yea because it's rented and I'll swap it out soon.... Actually really cheap for me too.
@sysrq @Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire yea no way I would spend that much money every year on a new computer or a new folding phone.
This is way cheaper.
@sysrq @Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire yea right. You give me 2k Ever year for a insane new folding phone then. That's fine
@sysrq @Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire well. The mobile productivity boost of a folding phone is Really really useful to me. Splitting the screen on a regular phone I never did because it's too cramped.
You show me a 100€ folding phone.
Also currently you need a new one like each year. Because the screen just breaks. Which is fine too because it's rented. Literally any damage is covered.
@sysrq @Tadano @MK2boogaloo @histoire if I didn't want a phone that turns into a tablet. Yea I would just have a 100 or 200€ phone or something. But that would impact what I use a phone for now too much.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire I don't have my computer with me at work for example. That's why it's useful to have baiscllay a tablet in your pocket.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire no I mean personal. Things why would they give me a pc for personal shit on break time.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire when I need to SSH into a VPS for example. Oh shit that's also rented. How dare I not own a data center. Or screw around with some docker container on my nas. Then not only having a big screen is nice. Having a screen big enough to allow multiple things next to each other is really nice too. Same thing with emails or doing things with money. Putting the banking app next to emails so I can just see who to send money too or whatever.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire not really. Yea I don't have every fucking IBAN memorised in my head. I just like having a big screen. I like to early adopt new shit and find out it's strengths and weaknesses.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire yea I could do that. Very correct. But that's boring and how everyone uses their phones. Thats not new exciting and fun. I like tech that is new and weird and quirky. Not the established standard.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire I really don't think so. 100 dollar phone doesnt seem like it has enough space for 2ssh connections and the keyboard.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire no I have a laptop. But the fucking laptop does not fit into my pocket.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire right. Do You carry your laptop Literally everywhere you go?
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire as I wrote. There are no cheap folding phones yet.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire you don't have a PC everywhere you go. Being able to multitask. Or even just single task on a big screen is very good.
It's so good I even put up with the insane shit cameras on the z fold series. Initially I rented it just so I could check it out if it made sense to me. If I liked a folding screen. Yes.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire just even the fact you can prop up put the phone into like an L. Shape and use it kinda like a built in tripod is very good. Makes my workday a lot easier so I don't need someone standing on one end of the machine looking at the screen of something. Or at the IO of a PLC while I am pressing a switch or something.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire I work as an electrician in maintenance having to repair machines. So Actually for my job the important bit is the built in propping up of the camera safely. Just set the phone down looking at some lights on a plc. Walk 50 metres away and press. Some button and see if the input works this time.
@MK2boogaloo @Tadano @sysrq @histoire book doesn't help me to put watch youtube while also having a messaging app open.
